DESCRIPTION: EPW - Philippe Miège, Paris (watchmaker from Geneva born 1702, died 1785), verge fusee, 48mm, 18K rose gold OF original consular case with exceptional deep engine-turned back and bezel in Louis XV taste, KWKS, WED, original gilt pierced hour hand, verge escapement, gilt mvt with pierced & engraved foliate scrolled two-footed balance bridge, s#744. Gross weight of assembled watch 51.2 dwt (79.6 g).
CONDITION: Mvt: NR, good staff but broken contrate wheel pivot, pin missing in plate above, broken chain, escapement function may be fine, some turnover achieved manipulating escape wheel, plates show excellent gilding, little oxide on steel components, heavier oxide on keyhole cap; dial with flecks around winding hole, faint hls in lower portion; near mint original hour hand, the minute a late 19th century Louis XV replacement; original case shows little wear, few MFS, no dents or dings; button latch good but a section of the button worn away; bow replaced in silver, English style, pendant original; clean domed plastic crystal.
